Van Gogh - Irises (1889)   (126901)
A painting by the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890). Irises was painted while van Gogh was living at the asylum at Saint Paul-de-Mausole in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France, in the last year before his death in 1890.
It was painted before his first attack at the asylum. There is a lack of the high tension which is seen in his later works. He called the painting "the lightning conductor for my illness", because he felt that he could keep himself from going insane by continuing to paint.

Van Gogh - The Dance Hall in Arles (1888)   (126906)
Dutch post-impressionist, Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) collaborated with Paul Gauguin on two paintings. This painting seems to show an evening at the Folies-Arlésiennes, a dance hall on Boulevard des Lices. The multitude of characters, the variety of their style of clothes and the way they overlap, skilfully portray a feeling of crowdedness and saturation.
